Boomtown has been updated with some new work.
BOOMTOWN investigates daily life in the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo. This area of Northern Alberta is well known for its wealth of oil and is widely recognized as hosting a crude deposit of international significance. The scale and pace of development, while a huge boost to the economy of Alberta, has put enormous pressure on the community's social framework and infrastructure. My work is largely a personal exploration of the resultant realities and consequences set against the backdrop of the northern Canadian landscape. Work in progress.
The alpine environment is remote and unwelcoming- a breeding ground for self-defeating doubts and fears. Through my own experiences I have come to accept that climbing in the mountains will awaken a barrage of unsettling emotions. The cerebral challenge can be overwhelming, sometimes to the point of surrender, but from this, climbing draws its reward. Through these pictures I explore climbing's psychological challenge.
